Chiesa delle Anime del Purgatorio (Church of the Souls of the Purgatory) in Messina. Completed in 1750, it was destroyed by the 1908 earthquake that leveled the city, and never rebuilt.
Exactly 50 years ago, on the morning of June 13, 1970, Hotel Continental in Gothenburg, Sweden was demolished by dynamite. The hotel Scandic Europa now occupies the lot.
Coulter Department Store, Los Angeles, designed by Stiles Clements, 1938. The building was nominated for listing in the National Register of Historic Places but was demolished in 1980 before the nomination could be heard.
