John Wanamaker’s Grand Depot, Philadelphia, built in former freight depot of Pennsylvania RR, it was the first American department store to feature electrical illumination (1878), telephones (1879) and elevators (1884). Replaced in 1910 by a 12-story palatial emporium.

One Montgomery in San Francisco, designed by Willis Polk in 1908. The top ten floors were remodeled in the 1960s and in the 1980s they were completely removed.

The Springfield, MA, Hall of Records, built to match a courthouse designed by H.H. Richardson located just to the left, and the Springfield Institute for Savings. Both demolished ca. 1973 for the construction of a new courthouse.
