There’s a great scene in the book Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell in which a magician causes all the statues to speak in the middle of the night. The kings complain to each other, some statutes speak Italian because of their foreign origin, one uses the opportunity finally to describe a murder it witnessed.
There’s no way I can see this building now without thinking of that.
