Governor’s Palace in Raleigh, NC. Built in about 1816, abandoned following the Civil War for being “tainted by the yankees” because they occupied it. Later torn down and replaced with a fire station, and the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.

    They called it a palace? Isn’t that a fairly typical nice house if the era, I’m sure I’ve seen lots that look similar.

    Where do you get this "tainted by yankees" business? The only info I can find is that the union trashed the place before they left.
