The University of Illinois has a pineapple at the top of its main auditorium, because apparently pineapples were a symbol of welcome and they wanted to welcome students from southern Illinois (as the auditorium was on the southern part of campus at the time).
That may just be a myth told to me by a tour guide, but maybe that explains this building?
