Source Central Station was the main passenger terminal in Chicago for the Illinois Central Railroad from 1893 until 1971. Located at the south end of Grant Park near Roosevelt Rd. (12th St.) and Michigan Avenue, it was closed in 1972 and demolished in 1974.
Source Dewey Arch, New York, NY – The grand arch was constructed in 1899 for a parade honoring Admiral George Dewey for his victorious efforts in the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War. The structure itself was built of cheap materials and was demolished a year later.
