Originaly built for l’Exposition Universelle if 1878 in Paris, the Palais du Trocadéro was localized on the butte de Chaillot, in front of the Eiffel tower and the Iena bridge.
After being criticized for its rapid decay and bad indoor acoustics, it was dismantled after 57 years and replaced by the Palais de Chaillot, built for l’Exposition Spécialisée in 1937.

It may be the first time in this sub that I find the destroyed building to be slightly less harmonious with its environment than the new one.
Palais de Chaillot fortunately has a style which doesn’t make it too brutal. Not quite modern trash, but not quite neoclassical/haussmanian either, a somewhat likeable middle between the two.
