I’m a fantasy writer and artist. Sometimes I use long lost buildings as inspirations for my fictional locations. While looking for inspiration for a fictional Victorian hotel I discovered this beauty.

Hotel Redondo ( Redondo Beach, California ) was built in 1890 and was demolished in 1925 after suffering a sharp decline in tourism due to prohibition which would be the bane of several great American hotels. Despite only operating for a measly 35 years, it was considered to be one of Californias major landmarks at its height and one of the greatest hotels in the world.

It had 225 rooms across three stories and it cost 500,000$ ( 14,281,208.79 today ) to construct. However, when the hotel was closed in 1925 it was sold to a logging company for a tragic 300$ ( $4,455.74 today )
