Henry Fite House, Baltimore, MD. At one point a meeting place for the Second Continental Congress, burned down in the Great Baltimore Fire. (1770-1904)
Haven’t posted a Baltimore building in a while! Felt this was significant. It was the meeting place for congress from December 20, 1776 until February 22, 1777, making Baltimore at one point the capital in the nation’s young life.
Devastating to lose such history in the Great Baltimore Fire, it’s just yet another example of buildings lost during the fire. I could never find much about the buildings lost, so I’m enjoying sharing these with you. One day, once I find more, I plan on making a map of all the buildings from around the time, which survived, which were lost.
The site of the building is now occupied by the Royal Farms Arena (Formerly Baltimore Civic Center and 1st Mariner Arena), which was build in the 60’s. Not quite sure what stood in it’s place between the two buildings.
