    If you are in that area I recommend doing Walmer castle as well. It started with a similar design to Deal but has had a lot more alterations over it’s life.

    These types of castles were designed as gun platforms for coastal defence which you can really see in the OP’s photo. There were 3 of these gun platform castles in the area but only Deal and Walmer still survive largely intact.
