I have a feeling the brickwork is a vinyl print which immediately ruins any room when you see it up close, you should avoid 3D textures like brickwork in a living space, they look great but only from a distance, best used in commercials areas. There are much better 2D textures that you can use for everyday living.
What they could have done is put a panel on the side of the beam, covered it with a dark wood texture for a wooden beam effect and left the walls white.
