Isn’t the bottom half still there? I feel like I’ve seen this before.

So a couple months ago I talked to my gramps, he was 94, about this building as I had a picture book with it in it. He said it was beyond repair and saving when torn down in 53-54. I picked his brain as much as possible near the end involving local and family history.

I wonder what the cost would be to build something like thos from scratch vs modern buildings.

As a Pittsburgh native, I’m more impressed with how clean this building looks in this photo. It must have been recently cleaned, there’s zero chance it naturally looked that way. All buildings in the ‘burgh had a thick layer of black soot from all the manufacturing at the turn of the century. Looks nice though. Someone else commented that the insides were degraded beyond repair and that was the reason for the tear down.
