Did they demolish this too to make room for a hideous doughnut shaped stadium?

A lot of awesome train stations were lost. If high speed trail travel and dedicated rails took hold we’d still have them around.

The arch was preserved, and now sstands in the Arena District, right by Nationwide Arena, where the former Penitentiary was located. With the creation of the Arena District and revitalization of the Short North, the city installed a number of wrought iron arches throughout the city, prompting the relatively new nickname of "Arch City" for Columbus.

Union Station was torn down in the ’70s when Amtrak rail service was ended to the city, and the Convention Center was built there. This convention center and City Center Mall, helped to revitalize the downtown Columbus area in the 1980s.
