Trinity Episcopal Church (1849-1936 Washington DC) was one of the most prominent buildings in the Judiciary Square neighborhood. During the Civil War it was converted into a hospital with the pews serving as beds.

    All that empty. It’s like a photo of a western mining town that decided to start building a huge domed skating rink and velodrome as a tourist attraction.

    A very interesting book I picked up a few years ago is Lost DC- mostly significant structures that were demolished in the District. It’s a painful read I must admit.

    This is an incredibly detailed photograph. I’d bet it was originally a Daguerreotype— a type of early photograph made on metal. Opinions?
