So many gorgeous Richardsonian Romanesque buildings have been lost in the 20th century. It was such a bold and refined style that dominated the late 19th century, it’s become one of my favorite architecture styles. Unfortunately a lot of them have been victims to urban renewal. This particular one at least was destroyed at a time when architecture was competent and urban renewal wasn’t toxic, so they replaced it with a lovely Neoclassical building which has become a landmark on it’s own. I prefer the original personally but it could of been replaced with something disgraceful like a hideous glass and aluminium building or god forbid a parking lot. Great find 🙂
