The Southern Hotel, Baltimore, MD. The “Queen of Light Street”, one of Baltimore’s most popular hotels in its prime. Torn down in 1999, its site remained an empty lot until recently. (1918-1999)
One of my favorite buildings that Baltimore torn down. It’s site had hotels dating back to 1776, including the Fountain Inn (A favorite of George Washington) and the Carrollton Hotel (Another victim of the 1904 fire).
The hotel itself stopped running in 1964, though before that it was one of Baltimore’s most popular hotels, very close to the Inner Harbor and right across from the famous Bank of America building. In fact there was a night club at the top of the building! In 1997 there were talks of another hotel moving in to the building, but instead it was demolished two years later.
The lot sat empty until One Light Street was finally started. It completed construction in December 2018.

I live in a similar building to this. The first tower was built in 1913. The 2nd tower was never built due to the outbreak of WWI. We have a really cool rotunda that was supposed to connect the two towers.

That looks a lot like the Hotel Duluth – now Greysolon Plaza – which is a mixed-use building. It features two wedding/event spaces, a couple of smaller businesses, and both towers are low-income housing.
