The ruin of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church was badly damaged in a bomb attack in 1943. It was not rebuilt as a reminder of the World War II [2447×3489] OC

« A house built in Springfield, MA by David Ames for his son John in 1828, who never lived in it following a failed engagement. It was demolished sometime between 1933 and 1939, and a church now stands on the site.
The heavily restored Margravial Opera House, a baroque German opera house completed in 1748, and one of the few surviving from that period. (detail pic in comments) »

    This was so sobering to see in person. Germany has been rebuilt since the war, so it’s hard for us to imagine the devastation. Even a small glimpse like this made a huge impression on me.

    And the new church, built next to it (on both sides), is one of the most hiddious buildings I have ever seen… Such a shame.

    I love it when they do that, it really makes the history resonate. In Hiroshima I remember standing at the building where the bomb hit and just taking it all in. It’s so sobering to see the remnants of a building like that.

    the bells in this church are haunting (to say the least) definitely a must see in in Berlin
