Intended to serve as the visual terminus of the Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis, architect Minoru Yamasaki designed the porch at the main entrance with these arches for it to appear “delicate” and be “a delight to walk through.”
Looks incredible, in a way the columns mirror those of the classics. But their more organic movement and materials show it’s contemporary design. It’s therefore a beautiful contemporary interpretation of the classical, a solution to the problem of reinterpretation of classical architecture in the modern world.
