I’m always amazed by these marvellous buildings that are just constructed for these fairs and then demolished. Were they actually built with real materials or were they just better “movie sets” for lack of a better word? I mean if you know you’re going to tear something down afterwards you wouldn’t waste using expensive materials.

Not entirely demolished most of the structure of the wings was kept in the current Trocadero (you can see it from the inside. The metallic beams are distinctively not Art-Deco but the rest of the current building is). Only the central part of the building was torn down and even then some of the structural elements were kept for the current Chaillot Theater located bellow the central plaza.
