The Newberry and McMillan houses, Grosse Pointe, MI. Original Gothic Revival cottages built 1875, remodeled in the shingle style 1890s. Both houses torn down in 1910, Newberry built a new house in 1911. That house was torn down in 1957. New construction and a road replaced it.
There’s a lot to say here but I want to add that the Shingle Style homes were exemplars of the style even though they were cottages. They were whimsical and unique among Shingle Style houses in this country.
The Newberry house spanned both lots.
These are all waterfront, or nowadays on Lake Shore Dr.
