Downtown Spokane was hit **hard** by urban renewal, from the 50s through the 00s. The Mohawk Building in the background was demolished in 2007!

It’s sad to see this building torn down, but I have to admit, I was surprised last weekend at how many cool old buildings are still standing in Spokane, with many under significant renovation.
I think long term, the downtown area will maintain a pretty neat balance between newer buildings and maintaining some these older buildings where possible. It certainly maintained a greater proportion than what’s comparable in Seattle or Tacoma.
