The Alhambra, built over previous structures even dating back to Roman times in the XIIIth Century, was made during the Granada Emirate and later taken during the Reconquista and expanded by Spanish kings.

Alhambra is a Medieval Era Wonder in Civilization VI. It must be built on Hills adjacent to an Encampment district.

Was lucky enough to tour the Alhambra a few years ago. If you think the outside is cool, you should see the inside.

ETA: It’s to a large extent Islamic.

Also, the Moors were in Iberia longer than the United Christian Spain (beginning with Ferdinand II & Isabella) has had control.

In 711, Moors crossed the Straight of Gibraltar. The Kingdom of Grenada surrendered on 2 January 1492. The Moors were in Iberia for 781 years. They have only been kicked out for roughly 528 years.

    The Alhambra was/is gorgeous.

The Alhambra is what made me fall in love with Spain back in 2006. I’m still here, 14 years later. šŸ™‚

I visited it at night. It was incredible. The juxtaposition of the Islamic architecture vs the later Spanish/Christian building is stark.
