They used to not allow taking photos inside. How did you do this?

Visited it a couple of times. It is, actually, a stone carving porn. The crude stone was transported from Europe to India, carved there for years by a lot of, for the lack of better words, stone carvers, then transported to Illinois, USA, and put together there.

I’m a UK based sculptor and stonecarver, and the sheer amount of work that goes into these carvings is astounding. I’ve worked on marble pieces from a few inches to several feet in length and even with power tools it’s extremely laborious. [This is the wiki page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaminarayan_Akshardham_(North_America) on the temple where this photo is also featured along with others. Every surface is covered in highly detailed carvings of every size and all of it has deeply drilled shadows in amongst the ornament and statues that take forever to excavate, and then all the details have to be meticulously refined.

There’s a similar one in London too and it’s breathtaking. Literally. When I walking into the domed hall my breath caught in my chest and I walked around in a stupor with a big dumb smile trying to take it all in.
