Is there a reason germany has the coolest castles?

Visited a couple of years ago. Disappointingly the tower was covered in scaffolding at the time so pictures didn’t really come out great. Still definitely worth a visit just for the armory.

Can I ask an uniformed question? Do they carve the castle out of the rock it’s sitting on and then add bricks? Or is it all added brick to the top of the mountain? Or a bit of both?
I’m always amazed at structures like these. Like…how did they actually do that back then?
