Just imagine the reputation, tourism and beauty that Rotterdam would have today if it wasn’t for the bombardment. Such a shame, this picture makes me so sad!

Not so fun fact: Germany threatened Holland that if they didn’t capitulate, Rotterdam would be flattened. The Dutch hesitated at first because French and British armies were still maneuvering, and German bombers took off for the city. Once this happened they announced their capitulation, but ground crews were unable to make contact with the bombers, so the city was destroyed anyway.
