According to local tradition and later historical accounts, Tilly the imperial commander was going to burn the town and execute all the residences, but they instead tried to bribe him with 3.25 liters of wine. Tilly declared that if a single person from the town could finish the entire 3.25 liters by themselves in one sitting he would spare the town. The mayor, Georg Nusch, succefully drank the wine and the town was spared.
Though it is most likely just a local legend, the first written accounts of it are 100 years after the seige.

I’ve been here a few times and it is beyond impressive. I remember looking from the top of the long wall that faced the huge valley and thinking there is no way you could mount an assault from there.
