Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen, Denmark was used as the residence of the Danish royal family up until 1710. Nowadays, the treasury under the castle holds the Danish Crown Jewels, and the interior of the castle is one of the most beautifully decorated I’ve ever seen.

After 1710 it was used on a couple of occasions as an emergency stay as other palaces in Copenhagen tend to burn down quite often.

Unfortunately it is difficult to convey via photo how impressive the interior is, since there is no single impressive viewpoint. Rather, there is an insane amount of detail in the individual rooms and ceilings. Unfortunately most of the details simply get lost in translation. As an example, [here](http://traveljapanblog.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/DSC_4878copenhagen-rosenborg-castle-throne-room.jpg) is a photo I found on the internet of the ballroom on the second floor.

Just saw it earlier this year. Beautiful architecture and grounds. Stands out beautifully from the rest of the city, as it sits in a sense urban area (although you’d never know from this picture). Really awesome place, city, and country. I’d move there in a heartbeat if I could.
