Think about the thousands of talented mason and brick laying man hours involved to build this thing. Those kind of experienced workers are not as common today. Whenever they try to duplicate this sort of style today it ends up muted and dull.

Usually there isn’t so much elaborate detail on the back facades of these old buildings, it’s nice that the architect cared how it looked from this angle.
