My son was born there in 2005. The interior was just as impressive as the outside. The nurses station was in the middle of the floor, and the rooms circumvented the outside. There was only one way into the patient area, and you had to have a bracelet on, which was checked twice before they let you enter. All those windows represent private rooms to my knowledge. I was also surprised at how big the windows actually were.

Sort of reminds me of the Hillard Towers which in turn reminds me of Marina City. Oh snap same architect, Bertrand Goldberg.

Wow why would they destroy such a building? A bit of powerwashing and it’d be good to go.

One of the few posts in this sub that I’ve actually seen before it was demolished. Its appearance was certainly divisive. Bittersweet to see it go.

Here’s an article with a video of the [demolition ](https://chicagoconstructionnews.com/prentice-womens-hospital-demolition-recorded-in-time-lapse/) . I like brutalism, so I was sad to see this go. I do understand why people didn’t like it though. It’s like the cilantro of buildings.

Definitely functional just not everyone’s cup of tea as far as aesthetics.
