    All that history… there had to be an amazing reason to demolish rather than try to save it. Right?

    The arches were demolished during World War II and rebuilt after.

    I understand the scope of the project, but this seriously alters the bridge to the point its loss its historic integrity. The new arches are clearly modern and as the current arches were rebuild after WWII, they are historic in themselves.
