Built in 1939, the iconic Pakard Plant bridge was built to ferry half built autos from one side of the plant, ovee Grand Boulevard to the other side. The brige was an icon in Detroit and featured a faulty clock and stone ornaments meant to resemble Pakard’s iconic toombstone grills. After the plant closed in 1958, the brige became another icon, this time for Detroit’s decline. In Jan 23rd 2019, the bridge collapsed after years of inadequate matenance and neglect.

Ironically this occured at a time when the entire plant is slowly being redeveloped.

This part of the city, including the bridge, is featured in the first episode of the new Grand Tour season, that aired just last week.
