One of the houses built for Marie Antoinette in the gardens of Versailles. While the outsides were designed to capture the rustic charm of a peasant village (without the peasants), the insides were decorated like palaces

I remember my 2nd year history of architecture professor showing us this right after Versailles Palace and telling us: "In case you ever feel sorry for Marie Antoinette, just remember this building".

TIL there’s a type of biscuit in france called ‘prince’ which have a prince’s face stamped on them. Like surely that’s the ultimate flex – straight up eating the royal family

Imagine being so out of touch with reality you build your own farmhouse to “play peasant” but still go all out with the interior because actually committing to the experience it’s just too much work

While people were dying of cholera and all sorts of illnesses due to bad hygiene, chiefs spent it big on enjoying the simple life.

    Best regards, Phil
