Old Yongsan Station in Seoul, Korea, destroyed during the Korean War. The striking building was constructed using unusual German-style timber framin. Yongsan Station still serves as Seoul’s secondary railway station after Seoul Station (whose occupation-era headhouse remains standing to this day).

   Again, the building in and of itself is beautiful but the fact that it’s in Korea kind of ruins it for me. It’s not even like the Germans colonized Korea, it’s just a blatant copy of a European style. Which isn’t what makes it necessarily bad – what makes it bad is the fact that Koreans have traditional and beautiful architectural styles and they should be using those instead.

   I really like what’s going on with the boys higher part of the building right before the roof where the attick would be. I like the different coloring.

   Eugh. De-contextualized European buildings outside of Europe and North America reek of colonialism. Not really a fan.
