I live in NY’s Hudson Valley and purchased my homestead a little over 2.5 years ago. My property consists of a one bedroom cottage with a huge garage (that’s where I live), a 12×16 studio/tiny house, and this 1940’s cabin which is partially built on a solid wall of rock.
Technically this structure is a cottage, but we call it the cabin/Hobbit House. When I got the property, this cabin was sided with a load of mismatched, rounded leftovers from a sawmill. The wood was rotting and there were huge gaps between pieces. The area with the stone veneer was just concrete with white paint flaking off.
Due to shit weather, and the fact that much of the sheathing and insulation needed to be replaced, the siding took about 10 weeks. By the time the first coat of stain was up, winter was right around the corner, so this spring/summer I was able to put a second coat of stain and a coat of poly.
I had been given 16 boxes of stone veneer a few years ago. After it sitting outside since I obtained it, I finally got to put it to good use and am so happy with how it came out. This picture was taken before the finishing touches were applied to the stone veneer.
