Not lost just yet but 417 Park Avenue in NYC is about to be demolished to be replaced with a towering glass office building. It’s not a super well known or notable building but it’s always caught my eye. It’s one of the last brick and mortar apartment buildings that far down on Park Ave in NYC.
It was designed by Emery Roth and built in 1917. Park Ave used to consist of apartment buildings like this all the way down into midtown and Grand Central but in the 1950s most of them below 60th Street were torn down and replaced with curtain wall office buildings like The Seagram Building and Lever House. This building is one of the last examples of an original brick and mortar apartment building on Park Avenue in Midtown.

Is it really wise right now to be removing an apartment building and replacing it with an office building? Seems like kinda terrible timing.

shame they aren’t considering adaptive reuse. Just build on top basically.
