Northwestern’s main university library looks very similar. Some architect was laying some brutalist turds across the Chicagoland area in the 1970s.

The state college in my home town has stairs that wrap around a cylindrical part of the building. Depending where you walk each step is a different depth. Talking to the architect before he died. This was on purpose. It was meant to signify the journey to knowledge being a difficult one. Or lawsuits for the college.

The Reg is one of the worst libraries to study in, IMO. The external brutalism is carried over into the study spaces’ furniture. At least the book selection is top notch.
