I know this is kind of pandering, but I really do think the Notre Dame is an incredible building. It is one of the first examples of Gothic architecture and was also the first use of the flying buttress (those things on the far right). Its stained glass ‘rose’ windows were incredibly famous for their intricacy and the wooden beams holding up the ceiling were so detailed that they were known as ‘the forest’. The bells of Notre Dame have been rung for hundreds of years, including at the end of World War 2. And the book The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Hugo was originally called La Notre Dame de Paris, and was written primarily to draw attention to the building, which at the time was falling into disrepair. One of my favourite things about the building is that there were many statues with severed heads. These were meant to represent the original kings of Judea, but revolutionaries thought they were kings of France and beheaded them.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s the only time in my life I’ve had my breath stolen by a place.
