Amazing, straight out of fantasy. FYI it was a much more modest abbey [until the 17th century](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont-Saint-Michel#Development)

I wonder how much they spend reinforcing the foundations

Is this on a natural rock formation or was it built up from flat ground?

[I was there again last November.]( https://imgur.com/3FMey1d.jpg )

[The view](https://imgur.com/XR7iCDc.jpg) they don’t tell you about. 😛

Make sure you try the [hard cider,]( https://imgur.com/iSo6oVL.jpg ) and the omelets at the top. The [prison museum]( https://imgur.com/aK6FBwQ.jpg) there is really interesting as well.

If anyone wants to know, there’s a very similar place in Cornwall, UK that I’ve come to call the poor man’s Mont Saint-Michel. It’s actually called [Saint Michael’s Mount](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Michael's_Mount) (intentional?) and it’s where the legend of Jack the Giant Killer comes from. Pretty interesting. Also beautiful at high & low tide!
