Back in the 19th century, Woodward Avenue was known for its luxurious mansions. Built by the wealthy elite these homes contained some of the finest furnishings, finishes and spacious rooms. Today only the David Whitney JR mansion and the Heckler Smiley mansions still stand. (Photo by /u/viktor72)
> Only 2 of the 15 mansions shown still stand today.

As sad as it is, posting pictures of Detroit is basically cheating.
On the other hand, having grown up in the (nicer) suburbs of the city, it’s awesome to see it on the rebound again! While the poorer communities are far from striving, the downtown and directly surrounding areas have become much much nicer.

This is my photo compilation. It’s from my [Flickr](https://flic.kr/p/9pmRMF). But I’m not mad it’s being shared.

I remember from some time spent in Detroit over 3 decades ago a type of house that I can’t find a pic of. They were 2 story houses that were narrow and deep on small lots. Entire streets were lined with them. Does anyone know what they’re called?
