LA will never live down tearing out the streetcar network.

The lone and level sands stretch far away.

This looks like South Spring and 6th Street in Downtown LA; the security building on the far left and the 10 story building on the back right are still standing.

This is 6th & Spring St looking NE. The two large buildings on the farthest left (Security Building) and right (Santa Fe Building) sides of the picture are still there.
The Security Building was the former headquarters office building of Security First National Bank, completed in 1906. The building was the tallest building in the city for four years when completed.
The Santa Fe Building building was commissioned in 1907 by William G. Kerckhoff, one of the most important industrialists and financiers in California. Architectural firm Morgan and Walls, an essential contributor of the architectural landscape of Los Angeles, designed the original 8 story building. In 1916, two floors were added; and in 1933, the Santa Fe Railroad purchased the building and occupied 7 floors, for over 50 years.
Both buildings have been converted to residential.

What was the occasion for the crazy line in front of the bank? Looks like orderly black Friday.
