The [Kremlin Presidium](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kremlin_Presidium) was a former building in the Moscow Kremlin, it housed the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic of the Soviet Union. Construction began in 1932 when Stalin ordered a new administrative building for the Soviet Government to be built. It was built in the Neo-Classical architectural style like most of the buildings in the Kremlin (*Yellow & White colors*), but was also poorly designed, as it [failed to mimic](https://imgur.com/a/AcZvQ3G) the design/facade of the adjacent [Kremlin Senate](https://ic.pics.livejournal.com/raven_yellow/75125316/1512708/1512708_original.jpg). For some time it hosted the Red Commanders School (military academy).
However, there is a dark and grim history behind what used to stand on the former site of the Presidium building. The [Chudov](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b1/Coronation_chudov.jpg) and [Ascension](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/M1n08b.jpg) Monasteries (along with the cloisters) were slated for demolition by the order of Joseph Stalin in the 1930’s, as part of his atheist programs within the USSR. This demolition was very destructive in nature, and changed both the look of the Kremlin and the historical importance of Russian history with it, as an entire chunk of the Kremlin was destroyed. This was just the beginning of the massive destruction of historical Russian buildings within the Kremlin and throughout the USSR by the Communists.
In the early 2000’s the Russian government attempted to do restoration work on the Presidium, but to no avail, they decided to demolish it in 2015 because of various complications. They did not receive any okay gestures from the UNESCO to demolish it. However, Putin made a proposal to completely [restore the monasteries](https://imgur.com/a/Y5yCBLl) to the fullest extent. The Kremlin Presidium merely had any historical significance compared to the other buildings, and completely ruined the architectural composition of the Kremlin. It was unfortunate that they had to destroy a building that is still considered historical, however not many people cared.
Wow, thanks for posting. This is really interesting!

At first was a little disappointed, but seeing that the monasteries are going to be rebuilt makes it all worthwhile. They all seem to be architecturally superior to the Stalinist building anyway.

However a historical restoration of the several buildings destroyed will make up for the loss of the Presidium. They ran into luck when they completely demolished the Presidium, because underneath it was the [foundations to all the buildings that were destroyed](https://3c1703fe8d.site.internapcdn.net/newman/gfx/news/hires/2016/since2014whe.jpg). The foundation of the Chudov Monastery was completely intact, the [Small Nicholas Palace](http://c.pastvu.com/_p/d/d/1/9/d194ca4147a0027b2c44e9a7e76a7c2e.jpg), and various other monasteries also had their foundations completely saved.
Here are some images of the historical monasteries:
