I had the paper model version of this castle when I was a kid, you had to pop the pieces out of a book and glue them together along with accompanying paper figurines. Would love to do that again.

    Awesome

It was actually originally a Kurdish settlement.

It has unfortunately been bombed by the SAA during the civil war, as the SFA was using it as a base.

As much as I love fantastic castles, this one is clearly a no-frills military installation and very cool for that. It looks imposing.

(although i suppose it would have looked a bit different in its prime)

It’s visible from my hometown in Lebanon. Unfortunately it was destroyed during the war. Arabs can’t have nice things.

This is (was?) one of my favorite monuments in the world. I’m not sure what I’ll find there if I’m ever able to go visit… 🙁

My absolute favorite castle. Shame it was damaged. Has anyone seen if there’s a restoration process in the works?

    Ah, yes, FortKnight.

This shot is great. Not only does it show the sheer power of the building itself, but it gives an idea of how commanding the *site itself* is.
