The church was consecrated on 9 July, 1891. St. Lambertus survived WWII, but its eventual fate was because of a mining company. The mining company (RWE) had planned an extension of the garzweiler surface mine, which the village of Immerath was completely demolished alongside with the church. The company had promised to make a smaller replacement for the church, which ended up being complete monstrosity, a disgrace for the inhuman company that only cares about gathering resources to provide for their materialistic lifestyle.

I grew up in a town with lots of old buildings and homes. Every now and then one would catch the interest of a buyer who wanted to either tear something down to build a new home or some other development. At one city counsel meeting there were a bunch of citizins trying to block a guy who was going to buy an old home that took up an entire block. His plan was to remove the old historic house and replace it with a row of townhomes.
Everyone was up in arms about it. The developer offered to take on any partners in his endevor who wanted to risk some of their money in exchange for modifying the design of the townhomes to something a little more aggreable. He offered that if everyone in the room wanted to invest in the property with him. Or if they pooled their resources that the citizens could buy the property and do whatever they wanted with it like keep the old historic home, do a renovation and sell it. People at the meeting looked around at eachother as if they were interested in trying to do something together. It was quite fascinating.
So the developer asked who here is willing to invest $10,000 to save this home? No hands. How about $5000? Nobody moved. Okay $500? Nobody raised a hand.
The next city counsel meeting was not as packed as that one.
