Christ. Urban renewal didn’t take it easy in Detroit. An awful lot has vanished.

Given the love of tech companies for old buildings and I honestly surprised they aren’t buying up old buildings (this is likely too big) and having them torn down and rebuilt the same for that pleasing old school aesthetic.
Could be a huge market for Detroit

Surprised that no one has mentioned that even though this has been torn down, their are plans in place to redevelop and build the tallest building in Michigan in that space.
That is super cool. Are there any department stores like that around anymore, maybe not at that size but that are more then a few floors? I remember seeing an episode of the twilight zone in a department store like that and I thought it was the coolest thing.

I was curious and found more info, along with pictures and a cool drawing of all the floors in Life magazine at the [Department Store Museum](http://www.thedepartmentstoremuseum.org/2010/05/j-l-hudson-co-detroit-michigan.html).
