I moved to interior Alaska in the fall 2014. I built this little shack, on my brothers property, and lived there on and off since then. It was a dream come true. By request AMA.
My eldest brother and I first became interested In ak back in 06 my mom took us on vacation from home in Georgia. We “got the bug” I started working seasonally for commercial fish processors and he joined the Marine Corps. Five years ago we bought some land and that’s when I built my little shack. I lived in it alone the ensuing winter and sometimes months on end other years. It’s just conventional 2x4s insulation and plywood. It gets warm very fast and keeps heat well. Took me about six weeks and ten g’s $ to get it livable. Eventually I’ll extend the deck, side it, and put a larger roof on it. There are a lot of interior and exterior photos in my post history.

How do you sustain yourself financially?
And what do you like to do in an average day?

I think it’s a really great spot, and I’m super jealous. I want to do the same thing so badly I can taste it, so I was excited about this content the first handful of times I saw it in this sub. I would ask what you hope to achieve by posting about this cabin three times in one day, and at least every two or three days for the past few months?

Are you like a full on hermit living off the land? how remote are you? Or is there a walmart or the equivalent within driving distance and you stock up
