Imagine if asylums like that still got built today. I understand why but I mean just imagine

A little bit more information about this gorgeous building. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture.
The “Towers” building pictured in this post was the administration office of the asylum and is flanked by several buildings to the left and right that housed the patients. The towers themselves were built as purely decorative structures and never held any patients throughout the asylum’s almost 100 year history.

Hey I know this place..
The Kirkbride Plan was to basically design hospitals like Victorian houses, so the mentally would feel like a part of a family. As they did well throughout the process, they would progress towards center of the building and released when deemed healthy.

It’s really a fantastic hotel to stay at. The building is amazing, the ceilings are absurdly high, and the hallways have these rugs which, up close, look suitably fancy and modern—but from far away look like shredded tatters.
