If I lived in this town I think I’d be grateful. The top image looks like the town is old rundown and nobody lives there anymore. The new building suggests an innovative place which intrigues and invites me in. IMHO

Having visited this place, I think it isn’t that bad of a change, considering the location and size increase of the space. I usually am quit critical of historic demolition though.
Sorry, i just don’t think it was that big of a loss. Mediocrity that’s 200 years old is still mediocrity.

The old building was nothing special IMO and the new one is pretty well executed.
