I wonder why the building was originally built like that? Looks too old to be because of zoning regulations.

Nice rendering. Any idea when this will start construction?

Interesting as I believe it is a Historic Hotel of America.

This is the building equivalent of a cyborg eye.

Just in case anyone is curious, none of the exterior is being demolished. The building is shaped like an L, so all the “modern” area is a new addition.

I adore this but it looks like a cyborg

I know others don’t like this kind of mixing old and new. It does take effort to make it work though as often just slapping things together does not look good at all.
I like this because it maintains a lot of the same architectural lines and I feel like that is an important part to making it work well.

It is directly across the street (just beyond lower left corner of photo) from this Deco gem. The pronounced horizontality of the the addition is a response to it.

I’m curious.
Rendering looks nice, like rendering always does.
After seeing how it look in reality its possible to judge.

Very similar to a building in downtown Oakland.
