Here are some more houses from Detroit which are all gone today. These houses, which all lined Woodward Ave, were torn down as the city grew with the explosion of the automobile industry in the first half of the 20th century.
From being on this sub a year or so, it seems that Detroit was once one of the loveliest of American cities. Not anymore.

It’s crazy to see pictures of even some of the condemned houses in Detroit and you wonder if the economy was better how amazing they could really look.

I grew up in Detroit and there are still some really beautiful houses left. The Whitney is now a restaurant and is absolutely stunning inside and out. I’m considering having my wedding there!

I recognize the one in the third row, second from the left. There was a picture of it abandoned with a large chunk of its front end missing. Obviously it’s gone now.

Wow, it’s almost like a functioning middle class is good for expressive architecture.

Yes but in all fairness the construction of these mansions and the nascent auto industry were paid for by the brutal clear cutting and destruction of the vast Yellow Pine forests of Michigan’s upper peninsula.
It’s sad these buildings are gone. It’s also sad they were built in the first place.

I love that the first 2 pics are next door neighbors, cool to see the home from different views.

I wonder if any of these had interior walls painted in mummy brown.
