Great Synagogue of Warsaw – the largest synagogue in the world when built in 1870s it was demolished by the Nazis in 1943 as the final act of suppression of the Jewish uprising and of the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Since the 1950s the People’s Republic of Poland had plans to build a skyscraper in its place, whose construction wasn’t finished until after the dissolution of the socialist government, in 1991.
They could use it as a museum or a gallery,my town also doesn’t have a large jewish community anymore but the synagogue is being used as a puppet theatre.

At least the Ottomans had the decency to turn the Hagia Sophia into a mosque instead of blowing it up.
